My Experience at Otherworld

Not sure what these are supposed to be…

My boyfriend and I went on an impromptu date night last week, as a last hurrah before he moves to San Fransisco. We both have always wanted to go but never made the time. We knew it would be a lengthy date, especially because we had dinner beforehand. We had both heard that it was this “unique” experience with neon lights and cool art. So we were prepared for how long it takes to get through Otherworld, which is said to be about 1-3 hours. We also always wanted to recreate the photos that all of our peers had posted on Instagram throughout the past few years.

No matter what we thought it was going to be, nothing could have prepared us for what was in store for the evening.

The Exhibits

The most known, yet also most unknown, part of Otherworld is the exhibits. You can find photos of the various rooms, which are said to have over 40 uniquely designed scenes. No matter how many photos you see online and reviews you read, it is truly going to be an amazing experience.

I joked with my boyfriend that it felt like we were in a “playground for adults.” It has the vibes of a haunted house with all of the random halls and secret pathways while maintaining the beauty of a museum with intricate artwork and sculpture design.

Activities at Otherworld

Me looking for a clue about one of the scavenger hunts

Upon our initial arrival at Otherworld, we thought it was only going to be a viewing experience. We weren’t aware of the various interactive activities that they offered visitors. I don’t want to spoil anything, but there were two scavenger hunts that are available for people to try to complete.

If you ask any of the staff members, they can give you a quick rundown of what you’re supposed to find. We didn’t realize that the exhibits all had hidden clues that were a bigger part of two different scavengers. Being able to run around otherworld trying to find the clues to solve the goal was so fun.

Is Otherworld kid-friendly?

Is Otherworld kid friendly?

Otherworld is definitely kid-friendly. However, there are some rooms that are a bit creepy. If your child is sensitive to creepy decorations, there are a few rooms to avoid. I don’t remember off the top of my head which rooms are the scariest, but I would just use your best judgment as a parent.

For the most part, however, the exhibits are really cool. There were a lot of families at Otherworld when we went. In fact, one family who had a daughter was a big help to us during the scavenger hunt. They were also doing the scavenger hunt, and the little girl seemed to be having a blast.

The room that I think kids would most enjoy is the exhibit decorated as a little girl’s room. It was really cute, with stuffed animals lining the bed, a wall projector with an interactive coloring board, and more. As an adult, it was even one of my favorite rooms. Be on the lookout for a secret passageway to another room, too!

Groups at Otherworld

Otherworld is a great place to go for a fun time. That’s why it’s no surprise that they offer various options for group events. Whether you’re an educational center or summer childcare looking for field trips, or your business is looking for a great place to conduct team building exercises, Otherworld is a great option.

Field Trips

No matter if you’re a school, education center, daycare, or club, Otherworld offers options and discounts to bring learning outside of the classroom. They offer hands-on activities for groups that allow kids an opportunity for out-of-the-classroom learning. Field trips are a great way to excite kids into learning about things they otherwise wouldn’t learn elsewhere.

Corporate Events

Otherworld also offers corporate events. Corporate events may occur for various reasons. Holiday celebrations, company achievements, and even team building exercises. You can choose from either renting out the entire space after peak hours or booking their private event space, allowing for up to 40 people.

Parties

Parties are a great way to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and more. There isn’t much information on Otherworld’s website about having a party. Depending on your specific event, you can contact them through this contact form. You can receive group discount rates, but they are first come first serve.

Events at Otherworld

Events at Otherworld mostly consist of DJ music such as EDM. There are various artists that come to Otherworld to perform, and you can find them here. You can get tickets on Otherworld’s website or from a third-party service like Songkick.
