I love tacos and I love Roatan. As someone who practically lives in West Bay, I’ve tried my fair share of tacos. From the upscale restaurants, mom and pop shops, and even taco trucks, I’ve tried them all.

Here’s a few things I look for in a quality taco shop:

  • Variety of choices
  • Vegan and vegetarian options (For the vegetarian boyfriend)
  • Quality of meat/seafood (I’m very picky about this)
  • The perfect tortilla
  • Lots of toppings (Crema, pico, cilantro, cabbage, cheese, etc.)
  • Won’t break the bank (I’m still a student!)

Out of all of the places in Roatan, from French Harbor to West Bay, I finally found the perfect taco place. To be fair, there are some taco trucks scattered throughout the island that are definitely hidden gems. However, if you’re looking for a solid mom-and-pop place, with a set menu and hours, Totally Taco is my #1 recommendation.

Overview of Totally Taco

I’ve tried a lot of taco places on the island, but I was really looking forward to trying Totally Taco. Although, our visit today wasn’t actually planed. We wanted to stop at the pharmacy for some alcohol wipes (got my nose pierced!) and walked by. As always, most of the tables were filled. It was 2pm, so well past lunch rush, and they were still busy (in a good way)!

I figured it wasn’t a bad time to check out the menu, especially considering I’ve been wanting to try it for months now. I honestly wasn’t hungry, but one of the customers called over to Bennett and I and said “You have to try it! Just get one, you won’t be disappointed.”

Our Taco Order

We decided we would each just get one. I tried the “Scrunchy” Taco. It looked the most appealing to me, as it was a hard & soft shell combo. I got it with chicken, but of course you could have beef if you wanted. It came with chicken, cheese, cabbage, cilantro, pico de gallo, and sriracha crema.

My boyfriend got the Americano, because it was cheaper to just get 2 ($8 for two tacos). The Americano was the same the scrunchy with no hard shell. We each tried the other’s, but we both decided we liked the scrunchy the most.

We Needed More!

Remember how I said we weren’t hungry? After those tacos, we were suddenly starved, and needed more. The cook, a lady whose name I’ve sadly forgotten, offered us two more for free. We declined, of course, but she insisted!

I really wanted another Scrunchy, but I had to be adventurous (for the blog, of course!). This time, we went with the “Wasabi Shrimp” and the “Fire Cracker”.

They were so good! They were definitely more adventurous compared to the “Americano” and “scrunchy”. I will admit, however, that the “Scrunchy” has my heart. I love a good crunchy taco!
