What is a Float Spa?
Float spas are becoming increasingly popular as a way to relax and de-stress. Floatation therapy involves lying in a specially-designed tank filled with warm water and Epsom salt. The high concentration of salt allows you to float effortlessly on the surface of the water. The tank is also soundproof and dark, creating an environment that is free from external stimuli.
Floatation therapy is said to have a number of benefits, including reducing stress, anxiety, and pain; improving sleep quality; and promoting overall well-being. True Rest Float Spa claims that this is the easiest way to enter into a deep state of meditation.
The idea is to provide a sensory deprivation experience, forcing you to be with only your thoughts. Because of this, some say they reach the deepest depths of their mind, which can help with not only anxiety and grounding, but also trauma healing.
What are the benefits of float therapy?
Float therapy is said to have a plethora of benefits.
These benefits include but are not limited to:
- reduced anxiety
- improved sleep
- reduced inflammation
- increased concentration.
- reduced body aches/pain
I can personally attest to the fact that float therapy does wonders for your mental state. After my first float session, I felt incredibly relaxed and at ease. I felt like all of my worries had melted away and I could finally just be. If you’re looking for a way to relax and de-stress, I would highly recommend float therapy.
My True Rest Float Spa Experience
I decided to try out True Rest Float Spa because I was curious about the benefits of floatation therapy. When I arrived at the spa, I was greeted by a friendly staff member who explained the process and answered any questions I had.
The float tank itself was larger than I expected and very clean. The water was warm and the Epsom salt made it easy to float on the surface. True Rest Float Spa provided me with ear plugs so that I would not get water in my ears. I spent about an hour in the tank and found it to be very relaxing.
After my float, I felt refreshed and relaxed. I would definitely recommend True Rest Float Spa to anyone looking for a unique way to relax and de-stress. If you’re interested in trying out floatation therapy, True Rest is a great place to start!
Is it affordable?
As a college student on a college budget, I usually wouldn’t indulge in something like this. I have always viewed therapies like massage, facials, and even floating as luxuries for when I have a steady career and discretionary income. With this being said, if you can get in with a discount like I did, it’s actually pretty affordable.
Usually it would cost around $90 for an hour float. However, I came across a discount code on Groupon that let me get my first float for $55! That’s almost half the cost of a usual float. I knew I had to take advantage of this massive sale. I’ll go ahead and link the discount, but depending on when you’re reading this, it may no longer be available.
Are the float spas clean?
Something I was curious about before going in was whether or not the spas were cleaned. Short answer is yes. Long answer is that the water is “recycled”, in a sense. It seems as though they do not replace the water after each customer, however that it goes through a vigorous cleaning process.
True Rest’s website says this regarding the cleanliness of the water, “We utilize both UV (ultraviolet) and Ozone treatment in our Float Pods, both of which run constantly when the pod is not in use, and after each float session. All water in the Pod is turned through our purification systems three and a half times, ensuring that not a drop is overlooked”
Do you have to float naked?
No, you do not have to float naked. Most people choose to float in their birthday suit, but you are more than welcome to wear a bathing suit if you feel more comfortable. The pool is located in your own private room along with a shower. So either way, you’ll be getting naked at some point. I chose to float without clothing and found it to be very relaxing.
What new clients should know
The website says new clients should arrive 30 minutes early. When I first arrived, this spent this time explaining to me how it all worked, how the float would make me feel, showing me to my private room, and explaining the functions of the pool.
My float consultant gave me two head supports that float in the water to help keep your head up. She also showed me how to work the lights and music, as well as how to open and shut the pool’s overhead door. But don’t worry, if you’re claustrophobic, you can float with the door open/slightly ajar. It doesn’t make a difference!
What to bring
When you get ready to float at True Rest Float Spa, make sure you have all of the items you need to feel prepared and relaxed. They provide earplugs, towels, and flip flops but you are also encouraged to bring your own for a more personal experience. If you have long hair, make sure to bring a comb or a brush so that you don’t have to walk out feeling like you just went swimming at the YMCA.
They also provide shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion. However, if you’re like me and are super particular about what products you put in your hair, you can bring your own! I brought my own shampoo and conditioner and washed it in the shower like usual. You’ll definitely want to shower after laying in salt water for over an hour.
- Comb/hair brush
- Soap (optional)
- Flip flops (optional)
- Towel (optional)
- Bathing suit (if you do not want to float naked)
Conclusion
If you have the opportunity to go to True Rest Float Spa, I say go for it! It is an incredibly relaxing experience and well worth the money. I will definitely be going back soon. If you want to try floating but True Rest is not in your area, check out other float spas in your city!
